Something in the air
How exciting.... Only a few days left....the D day of the visual arts and craftsman show is at our door step! The last minute glitches are tended to in a short span of time. It does not extinguish the excitement in the aire! To be part of this kind of events is magical. In the next few days, I will also put masking tape on the floor in order to visualize my exhibiting space and decide which artworks to bring. I am convinced that this year will exceed the number of excepted visitors!! Enjoy the show!!

Networking
The artist life is like a non-stop tornado!! A 24 hour 7 days a week kind of a job! Between taking classes, producing artworks, teaching kids the rudiments of the arts, preparing events like Art au Pluriel, we also have to make a place for ourselves in the artistic community. To be there at the right moment sounds cliché but seems to apply here. The artistic community is buzzing with activities; one needs to find out how to belong, to know the right contacts and yes, and to be there at the right time. I am also learning with time that we should not limit ourselves to one or two networks but to many. More we participate; more opportunities are open to us. Now, if only I can find a network for tired mom artists...

Our site has a new look
I am quite pleased of the new look of Art au Pluriel’s website. More esthetic and less condensed, it permits a greater promotion of artists thanks to the moving banner of the artworks on the home page. Furthermore, on the right hand side, we can easily click on the artist information if we want to find out more. The most indispensable tool is the blog – a direct communication with you. A huge thank you to our webmaster and sponsor Comada Technologies!!

Artistic training
It is important as an artist to perfect ones abilities by training, by taking courses or by finding new sources of inspiration and techniques. I recently had the opportunity to take a course with the artist Jacques Clément. What a wonderful experience!! All weekend, I learned a new technique in expressing nude models. This mixed technique of drawing with gesso, charcoal, soft pastels and acrylics was challenging – especially after many months of not drawing models. After a weekend of application, I was just starting to get the technique. I encourage in going further in the expression of your art by attending workshops. There is always room to grow and learn. To find out more on this artist, please go visit Jacques Clément’s website at: http://www.jacquesclement.com

Copying and the arts
I wish to address a topic that preoccupies me very much – copying in the arts. There is a fine line between being inspired by the artworks of others and reproducing it as is. When we are doing an interpretation of other artists’ artwork (either known or becoming known artists), it is important to create an artwork in our own way while being inspired by it. Our interpretation of the artwork must show an evolution from the original inspired artwork. As mentioned by our Honorary President, Jean-Yves Guidon our artwork must show obvious and undeniable changes from the inspired piece. In other words, we must make our own original creations – regardless of inspirations or ideas. It is strictly forbidden to sell or to exhibit a copied artwork because of copy rights legislation and intellectual property. Art au Pluriel is committed in respecting the intellectual rights of artists and will take all copying allegations seriously. If shown after examining visual proof that an artist has copied an artwork, not only will that artist contravene to the copyrights legislation but also will be expulsed from Art au Pluriel’s show.
